HEARTLAND

As far as the eye can see, I mean from here all the way to there, is corn. That's not entirely true. Every other county was soy beans, lots and lots of  beans. There was corn and beans, beans and corn........and then there was corn and beans. I changed the name from the heartland to the fiberland. There was so much fiber that I had a bowel movement just driving through this area.

Being a New Yorker I was fascinated and appreciative with the abundance of food our country can produce. What I can't understand is the cost of a box of corn flakes. I spoke to my friend Steve, Nam 69 pictured below, and was told maybe 7 to 10 cents of that box of corn flakes went to him. Something lost in translation perhaps. I don't know.

At dusk I pulled over to the shoulder at one of these fiber fields I've been talking about and a giant arm reached down from the heavens. God you say, not likely. It was just a windmill. Just a windmill, do you have any idea how big these things are? I'm talking to you New Yorkers. Fuggetabowdit ! ( spell check had fun with that one ). I never seen anything like it. Not one but thousands littered the landscape. It was actually quite beautiful and the eclectic landscape of the Midwest gets a thumbs up from this novice traveller. Just don't ask me to live here. BORING. Of course I'm being silly...... NOT. Thank you to the heartland people for your gracious hospitality and kindness especially the Barons and the Kaiser families. I love you guys.
