EARTHSHIP

One of Taos's more extraordinary features is Earthship  Biotecture, a self sustainable community. Located in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains this community provides self-sufficient, low-impact buildings on 347 acres of commonly owned land. The  buildings are made with natural and recycled materials including Solar heating and cooling, Solar and wind electric, water harvesting, contained sewage treatment and food production.

I went to Earthship Community expecting to see a hippie type of community but was blown away by the technology of an Earth Saving Science in actual self-sustaining living. People actually live and work in this community. They allowed me to come in and browse around except in the construction area. I had to sign a waver for accident insurance. The buildings were made of discarded bottles, cans, and even tires. I went to the bathroom and when I flushed the sign said the water had already been used three times for other purposes. Buildings are under construction and new ones are being planned. It was a glimpse into MANKIND'S future, scary.

This buildings wall are made of thousands of used beer cans.
Decorative towers are made of used bottles.
Take a close look, cans on top and bottom and used care tires in the middle.
Each housing unit has a greenhouse.
