DELICATE ARCH

Delicate Arch is the moniker for Arches National Park, Moab, and for the entire state of Utah itself. It's on their license plates. But to see it, other than on a license plate or a calendar or as a screen saver, is to hike up three miles to the top of a mountain and down into a huge wash basin at 7,000 feet elevation.

Joe and I started the ascend about eleven AM and it took an hour and a half to reach the summit. When we reached the top we had to walk on a ledge about three feet wide hanging off a sheer thousand foot rock face cliff. Circling the peak, mountain goat style, we then desended into a huge bowl containing delicate arch. The bowl was full of people just mingling around at 7,000 feet. Among our favorites was the Jones family from Utah itself. Mr and Mrs and there four children were awesome and we exchanged pictures. Thanks guys you were great.

Suddenly Joe became rigid and silent. Not realizing his true condition I thought he might be hungry so without hesitation I offered him a Cliff Bar.

We both burst out laughing, me from realizing the situation and Joe from nervous histerior. He had vertigo. He was terrified. There we were 7000 feet above sea level, on a rock face ledge and he is afraid of heights. NICE !

Well I stood him up like a froze manakin and snapped a few pictures. Here is Brother Bill, as we like to call him, with a frozen smile on his face. It's the first time I've seen him lost for words.
