I spotted this lake from atop one of the Sierra Nevada peaks and the lake appeared frozen. As I descended the temperature rose and I realized it was something else. First I thought it was white rock formations. When I touched it I realized it was salt. Rain washing down the mountain carrying salt deposits over hundreds of thousands of years have caused this lake to turn white.
Icebergs of salt.
A frozen sandy beach at Robert Moses.
Soupy salt water at the edge.
