CALGARY

Calgary is cowboy country. World renowned for its stampede of rodeo riders and horsemanship it's also known for the 1988 Winter Olympics. The pride and honor of hosting the world is evident everywhere you turn. The rail system boasts of posters of Olympic events of days gone by as well as yearly stampedes and horse shows. It's a truly proud city.

After leaving Glacier Waterton National Parks I headed north towards Calgary on my way to the Canadian Rockies. I had to go through a place called Crows Nest. Crows Nest is a mountain pass just north of the National Parks. Seventy five years ago an avalanche buried an entire town. One third of a  granite mountain collapsed and buried this town alive. Years later this huge truck was built to  help clear the pass and build a highway through it. And so, we have the worlds biggest truck.

My stopover in Calgary on my way to the Rockies was made possible by my host and very good friends Bill and Lauren. Bill is a well know and award winning news man in Canada and was nice enough to allow me to play on his news set. He recently covered the floods in Calgary that washed away a good part of the city.

As any true Calgarian would my host treated me to a professional sports game. In New York it's baseball or football but where are not in New York we are in Canada and anywhere  in Canada it's hockey. In Calgary it's the Flames. Welcome to the north country.
